Thyme Tea for coughs from flu
I have spent something like two weeks now sick with one of the worst cases of the flu I think I have ever had. For the first time in 20 years I was able to just tuck myself into bed and try to sleep through the worst of it - at least I tried, then the coughing hit and now I can't lay down or I start coughing - really bad.
I have discovered that thyme tea works nice to fight off coughs. Surprising discovery when looking about online for home cures because I could not get to the store for medicine. I heard that thyme was good for coughs, and made up the following recipe:
1 tsp thyme leaves
1/4 tsp powdered ginger
3 whole cloves
Pour 1 cup boiling water into small teapot and add thyme, ginger and cloves. Let steep at least 10 minutes. Add 1 cup of boiling water to rewarm tea.
Pour into teacup and sweeten with 1 or 2 teaspoons of honey.
Also tastes good cold. I can't wait to try this as a summer cold tea next year. My one drawback at the moment is I am not sure just how much thyme tea is too much thyme tea. I need to look it up and see if there is any warnings against too much thyme use.
