Crestor Lawsuit

Most of us will take some kind of medication at one time or another during our lifetimes. As we get older medications become more necessary to help keep our bodies healthy. One group of drugs, known as "statins" is intended to aid in helping to lower cholesterol and help keep our hearts healthy.

In 2003 the FDA approved the Astra-Zeneca statin drug Crestor for use in the U.S. Since its approval there has been off and on issues raised about the drug, including an instance in 2009 when CBS News reported that the FDA had Crestor under scrutiny due to some misleading safety claims that Astra-Zeneca had in the advertising for the drug.

All of the ups and downs are going to invariably bring up the discussion of rather or not there could be grounds for someone to file a Crestor lawsuit for injury sustained by taking the drug. Those wishing to know more about if they may or may not have grounds for a lawsuit should consult an attorney that specializes in product liability lawsuits to see what their rights are and what the drug manufacturer might be held liable for in such a case.

Interesting to see. I had no idea of these lawsuits in the USA. As a canadian nurse, i see many patients on this medication to aid in decreasing LDL (bad) cholesterol. I wonder what kind of insults they have for grounds to sue. Although this medication is meant to be used with other BP meds, change of diet and activity, i'm not educated enough to know the side effects of crestor, although i do know consumption of alcohol is not recommended as it is probably hard on the liver.
Hmmm..

The issue seems to have been in the advertising that Astra-Zeneca released for the drug, where some safety claims were made that were misleading. Because of the misleading safety information, the company could have opened itself to possible lawsuits if the medication were prescribed to persons for which it was not intended.

There also appears to be some concern, from 2010, over a broadening of the medication's market: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/31/business/31statins.html

On your comment about the alcohol consumption - I know from having researched medications over the years as a family caregiver that, for some medication, the effect of the medication can be made stronger or otherwise altered by the consumption of alcohol. So anyone taking medications and considering drinking, even socially, should be careful to look into what effect taking them with alcohol can have.
