Smart Phone Diet Apps

When I was a kid, I had to poke my finger into the little hole that corresponded to the number I wanted and rotate the dial around to the little stop bar, then wait as it rotated back so I could dial the next number in the phone number. Those old rotary dial phones have vanished now, and not long after they went another contact staple of my childhood went - the public phone booth. (Where does Superman change now?)

Today we all carry a little pocket sized phone that, if we want it to, will call anyone we want simply by us saying "Call, ____". We no longer need to dial anything, the phones will do it for us. And they will do a lot more than just that.

Smart Phones are simply small pocket sized computers now. You can do so much of the same things on a Smart Phone as you can on a laptop that they even have one out now that plugs into a large keyboard and monitor to transform itself into a laptop.

And this is actually good news for dieters, because that places the power of the internet in the palm of your hand at supermarkets and restaurants.

Uncertain how healthy something is? Check the Web using your Smart Phone. Not sure how you would cook something? I used my Smart Phone last month to look up what an unfamiliar fish was and how it is supposed to be prepared, before I took it out of the store cooler and put it into my cart! I also discovered that a unfamiliar vegetable I was considering went great with chicken, only deciding to skip it when the produce kid advised me that Chayote Squash has a very strong peppery spicy flavor. Something the recipe site failed to mention.

My Smart Phone has several applications on it that I loaded up to use for helping me manage my weight, including my favorite:

WWDiary

WWDiary is a powerful Weight Watchers points counter program that has come to be about the only app I use anymore. It lets me calculate what the points are in any given food before (or after) I eat it. I can tap a little barcode scanner and scan the barcode on something, then enter what it is, tap the calculator and enter the fat and carbs and other details to get how many points each serving is. My entries are recorded on a screen on the main page of the app, counting down how many points I have used from my total.

There is also a entry area for exercise that lets me enter how long and at what intensity I have performed a specific exercise to calculate my points for that activity.

A weigh in area allows me to enter my weekly weigh-in weight, with a weight log to show me what my past weigh-in numbers were and when each time I weighed in was.

I can also browse back through days, so if I was unable for some reason to enter something, I can go back to the specific date and enter it.

I highly recommend WWDiary for anyone that is looking for a good weight loss tool, and for anyone on the Weight Watchers diet plan.

What Smart Phone diet and fitness Applications do you recommend?
